Holidays

It all started with Tenerife which has been a regular event since 93 as a result of the extraordinary generosity of Robert Hitchins who donated £1m in memory of his late wife Elizabeth.

Sending a party of para and tetraplegics together with their carers and other supporters to the Canary Islands, costs in excess of £50k, and it is truly money well spent.

Rebecca Hewitt, wheelchair bound, summarized the joy of Tenerife to Serena Oxley:
How does one describe the Magic of Mar-Y-Sol? If you can imagine a weighing room with 35 happy jockeys- even though most are in wheelchairs, add some sun, a warm pool, a drink or two in the evening, some fun games and lots of laughing, you might be nearly there. It is the best prescription possible.

Mar-y-sol, Tenerife

Building on the success of Tenerife, we now organize other holidays in the U.K and some weekend breaks. In recent years we have organised a succession of Beneficiary racedays. These give us the opportunity to remind many of our beneficiaries they are not forgotten, and which are thoroughly enjoyed.

The most recent holiday was a wonderful 5 day trip to Ireland for 30? beneficiaries. This included racing at Killarney and a unique tour of Ballydoyle including the grounds, facilities, the horses and resident stallions. In true Irish style the welcome and hospitality by all at Ballydoyle was unrivalled and of course very much appreciated as the pictures clearly show. Our huge thanks goes to all those who so generously helped in many ways.

These trips provide immense pleasure to those who are able to participate. They are indeed almost a panacea for all concerned and the numerous letters of thanks we receive speak volumes.
